International conference: Experiencing History in Laird Hunt’s fiction.

Présentation

[ENG] Laird Hunt’s work is inspired by history, including literary history and its many genres, which are revisited (folk tales, detective novel, gothic fiction, historical novel). Throughout his œuvre, the raised voices, mostly women’s voices, come from the margins, creating a contrapuntal, poetic ensemble of fragments, coming closer perhaps to a form of truth than smooth, continuous historical discourse. Drawing from a variety of cultures, Hunt’s work offers a larger, critical vision of American history as it subverts traditional narratives and epistemological structures, and both expands language and enhances its limitations.

The event aims at locating Hunt’s work within the landscape of American literature while questioning the ethical and political potentials of aesthetics and reading.
