Présentation de l'éditeur This volume examines the emergence of a whole new range of trends and tropes triggered in Indian English Fiction with the advent and phenomenal success of Rushdie's Midnight's Children. It explores how this fiction negotiates the concerns about language, diaspora, feminism and other major contemporary issues, and foregrounds the heterogeneity and indeterminacy of things. Equally does it critique the assumptions about nation, history, facets of identity and culture, often enough not in sequential representational modes but in complex, non-linear narratology. Finally, the study problematizes how this fiction holds 'a conversation with the world' through the portrayal of a post-colonial, post-modernist India.
